Blind as he was he barely sensed the punch till it was an inch in front of him. He turned ever so slightly to take the hit he felt he deserved. It connected against his ice cold cheek with a sickening crack like a ruler broken over a knee.

Gaia looked into his eyes and dimly noticed they looked different. Honestly, she couldn't find it in her heart to care.
"How dare you?!" Her voice cracked as she shrieked, body shaking. "How dare you let her back in here?!"

Something in him broken right then and he stood up sharply suddenly towering over Gaia and yelling right back "YOU THINK I WANT THIS?" he roared, "You think I want to be living in the same place as the woman who got so close to me, used me and left me a corpse? She saved my damn soul Gaia! She almost suffered a fate worse then death trying to right all the wrongs that she did and even if I wanted to forgive her I can't!"
And there it was...the feelings in his heart laid out bare. He couldn't turn his back on her because she'd brought him back, but try as he might his heart would not forgive her so easily. He was shaking and his shadows were whipping things around in the room again. Books fell from his desk and the pages fluttered helplessly.

Before Gaia could say or do anything, Suzaku rose up, eyes bright red and body glowing. Though Noir couldn't see, he could probably feel the incredible warmth the bird was giving off.
"That is enough." He declared, his teenage voice suddenly commanding and powerful. "I will not allow this to escalate to a point where Gaia can be injured."
Gaia herself? She was frozen in place, between Noir's sudden outburst and Suzaku's declaration.

Whoever...whatever that was got through to Noir and he sat down again like the air had been sucked out of a balloon. He seemed smaller now, deflated and weak.
"I...i'm sorry..." He mumbled still shaking as the shadows settled...he wasn't apologizing to the bird however.
He was scaring himself now...he'd promised himself he wouldn't lose it in front of Gaia and yet it had happened so fast.

Suzaku smiled slightly, huffing before he lowered himself, this time onto Gaia's head. "Good."
Gaia shook still, and when she spoke her voice was soft and weak. "Noir...what happened to you?"

He was silent as he tried to calm his shaking, everything was cold and painful again, not quiet numb but stinging.
"I...I don't know...t...this is what's left of me after hell I guess." He whispered and put his hands to his head, he was soaked in a cold sweat as he tried to repress the anger and the raging shadows inside him once more.

Gaia stayed quiet for a long time, just standing there and absorbing Suzaku's warmth. "...They didn't save your soul," she murmured, not bitter but sad. "They saved what's left of it."

He thought about that for a moment and laughed bitterly, "I'm sorry Gaia..." Was all he could think to say. Tears burned behind his eyes and trailed down his cheeks, he turned away from her so she wouldn't see but it was too late.
He was weak.
He was broken.
"Maybe you'd have been better off if I hadn't come back at all...at least then you wouldn't have to see me broken like this." He laughed again feeling sick.

Gaia shook her head and the way her voice shook would tell him she was crying too. "You're just need fixing. We'll...we'll put you back together again. Just right."
Suzaku seemed to glow brighter and he tangled his talons in Gaia's hair, rubbing his beak against her in comfort.

He wouldn't look at her, he couldn't he was supposed to be protecting her.
"I'm sorry...I'm messed up." He said again this time his voice barely a whisper. The room felt so cold suddenly and he was painfully aware of his chest scars. He turned his body so she wouldn't have to look at those either, the badges of his failure.

Taking a tentative step forward, Gaia grabbed his arm and pulled slightly, trying to turn him to face her so she could see what he was trying to hide.

Noir turned to face her silent...unseeing...but then...there she was.
Something standing out in the darkness...a glimmer, a flicker...a light.
Silently, he slipped to his knees in front of her setting his head just below hers, and wrapped two heavy arms around her holding her tight, "I'm sorry I left..." He whispered into her.

Gaia didn't say anything, but wrapped her arms around him in return. She stayed like that and then...
Then soft sobs would enter Noir's ears, the only noise in the silent room.

As the beeper went off on the communicator to attend the meeting Gaia stepped out of Noir's room when he requested a moment to change into some clean clothes.
He felt his way to his closet still blind, more so without the sliver of light that Gaia seemed to emit.
As he opened the sliding door he heard a squeek and his blind eyes fallowed it.
"H...hello James." Squeeked a soft nervous voice.
"Mindy?" He felt the wind sucked out of his lungs once more. How many women were going to appear in his room that night and would they all invoke such powerful and painful physical feelings tied to his emotions?
"I..i've missed you." She mumbled.

After a about five minutes the door slid open and Noir stepped out in a clean T-shirt and jeans. His unseeing eyes scanned the hallway for Gaia and when she took his hand to lead him to the meeting he went. Mindy waited till both were well out of sight before she too left the room to attend the meeting. The words shared between brother and sister would remain secret for now.
